Announcement: 2010 SNSYC Juniors' Boating Saftey Course

The SNSYC Juniors' Programme is pleased to offer a Boating Safety Course which leads to acquiring the Pleasure Craft Operator Certificate, a PCOC. Anyone operating powered watercraft, in any Canadian province, is legally required to have a PCOC.

The SNSYC Juniors' Safety Course is open to the public and Junior Members aged 10 to 18. The course is comprised of 3 three hour classroom sessions in preparation for the PCOC examination. Our own Canadian Power and Sail Squadron accredited instructor teaches this course, and it is geared towards the needs of the young boating enthusiast.

Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Full details on course dates, fees, and registration deadlines can be found by accessing the Juniors' PCOC Course Schedule and Registration Document (click here)

2010 Summer Sailing School Facts

Junior members of SNSYC receive a $25 discount off fees. Non-members may join the Yacht Club by completing a Junior application. This is a remarkable deal and will allow the member to participate in Sunday sailing sessions, between April and November and Thursday evening sessions, from May to October.

BC Sailing has advised that effective 2008 every participant in a Learn To Sail program through a club or a school will be required to buy the $5 Participation Insurance from BC Sailing. All participants will be insured through HUB Insurance. Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club is required to collect the fee and submit it with the name, address, age and club affiliation of the student to BC Sailing. For further information, please check the BC Sailing website (bcsailing.bc.ca) under BC Sailing Participants Insurance. The Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club carries a portfolio of general liability insurance policies but does not cover students for personal injury.

The BC Sailing Participant Insurance is included in your Summer Sailing School payment.

To register, please print out the Summer Sailing School Registration Form (click here), complete it and mail or deliver it, along with payment, to the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club. For more information, please contact Karin Wunderlich via email at office-manager@snsyc.ca or telephone 250 655-6518.
